No matter how I tried, it just didn't work. My mind would race and I'd go through my to-do list, what I fought about with my husband, work stuff, why my son wasn't getting his work done and what I was going to make for dinner, among other things. I couldn't get that all to stop. I just couldn't get quite. I just thought I couldn't do it and I wasn't going to be one of those people.
I was wrong. These are the methods I used to find success with meditations:
- Deep Breathes - Start with some deep cleansing breaths.
- Chant - A recently acquired coach suggested I use a chant or word to focus. That word was "shrim". You repeat it any way you want; slow or fast, it doesn't matter.
- Thought Balloons - My coach also advised to imagine those thoughts that pop into your head as clouds. Also imagine those thought clouds floating away. Every time a cloud comes into view, let it go and imagine it drifting away. Since I'm letting go of the thought, I re-imagine my thoughts as a pretty pink balloon. I let the balloon go and watch it drifting away.
- No Judgement - No matter what happens or doesn't happen, you are doing it right. Have no judgement around how or what you are doing. You are doing everything right. No matter what.
- Time - I do just 5 minutes every morning. Right after I run to the restroom, I set my timer and get it done.

Self Care
I've always felt pampering yourself was a good way for a meditative state. You focus on yourself and clear you thoughts for others. Here's a resource for just that:
Oh I tried to meditate and failed too! Will definitely try again after reading this.
